Match Day is a day we had been waiting for for 4 years!! It was such a fun, exciting, and memorable day. This is a little how Match Day works. Months previous Sam had applied and interviewed at many Orthopaedic programs all over the U.S After all the interviews Sam submitted a rank list of all the places he interviewed. All the schools after they are finished with all their interviews they create a rank list of all their applicants. There is some kind of crazy mathematical way that they figure this out and the first place that a school and an applicant match up that is where one will go for residency. Some people go to their first, last, or somewhere in the middle of their rank list. A few days before the actual Match Day everyone is notified if they matched into the program that they interviewed for or not. You are notified by email. This was actually the scary day. Some people actually don't match at all into any of the places that they interviewed. Awful! After we found out that we had matched it was just such a huge relief and then we were just so excited to go to the Match Day ceremony to find out where we were going! We matched at Texas Tech!! This was Sam's first choice!! Orthopaedic surgery residency is a 5 year program. So we will be here for 5 more years! So, we are soo excited to stay in Lubbock. Sam liked a lot of the other programs that he interviewed at but felt that Tech was the most family friendly one while still producing excellent surgeons. We also knew that Lubbock was a place where we could afford a house and a place that would be good to raise a family. I'm beyond proud of Sam. Ortho is an extremely competitive program. He worked soooo incredibly hard in med school and now it has paid off. I'm so excited that he matched into the program that he wanted to and will be able to do career wise what he wants for the rest of his life! Hip hip hooray for Sam!!
Ok, Blogger has a new way of downloading pictures and so these are all out of order.
Love this face!! Pure happiness!! This is right when he opened the letter and found out where we were going.
Opening the letter
Right before we opened it.
