Addendum to It's a GIRL post

Sam is doing an ortho rotation here so he has been super busy. Therefore, he wasn't able to come to the ultrasound where we were going to find out the sex of our baby. Actually, he asked a chief resident if he could go to the ultrasound and the guy didn't even answer him but laughed and rolled his eyes! You have to love med school sometimes! Truthfully, I called my mom crying and begging her to come out here to be with me for my ultrasound so I wouldn't have to go alone. My mom finally convinced me that it wouldn't be the end of the world if Sam didn't come with me to the ultrasound and if I went alone. She also told me of an idea that she had heard of where you find out the gender of your baby from a cake. She said when a girl goes to her ultrasound she doesn't find out what she is having but has the ultrasound tech write the gender on a piece of paper and then she takes that piece of paper to a bakery and the bakery makes the cake. The cake is dyed either pink or blue depending on the gender and then frosted with a dark icing. You could have family or friends over and then cut open your cake and find out what you are having. I decided that this sounded fun and would be a great solution to my sad situation.
Right when I got called back to have my ultrasound I told the tech that I did not want to know the gender. I told her of my cake plan and she went along with it. She wrote down the gender in a envelope that I gave her and taped it shut. Driving in the car after the appt to the bakery with the envelope in my purse almost killed me. I actually didn't get a cake made but a cookie cake instead, because I love cookie cakes with tons of frosting! After the cookie cake was made with the writing in blue or pink saying "It's a ...boy or girl." I had them tape up the cookie cake box and took it home. FINALLY, Sam came home from the hospital and we set up the video camera to capture the moment. I still can't believe we are having a little girl. Finding out this way was way more fun than just finding out at the dr's office. I might even want to find out this way with the rest of my babies.

That's such a good idea when your hubby can't be there with you. I love it! Thanks for this addendum since I really wanted to know how it all worked :) Congrats again on a little girl.

SO fun! I may have to try that with a future kid. Although I don't know if I would have the patience to wait...I'd probably dig into that cake the second I picked it up from the bakery. :)

Hey, Brittney! I don't believe we've met, but I'm sure we will soon. First off, congratulations on your good news! Sam was telling us all about it last night, and Clint and I are very excited for ya'll. Second, that is such a cute way to introduce the gender! I may steal it someday. But that probably won't be for a while ;). Third, that was super-sweet of you to send groceries with Sam. Please don't worry about restocking them, though. We are more than happy to have him at out place, and I usually cook enough for 4 anyways. ;)
Love your blog!
