James' Hospital Visit

Back in May, (I know, I am a loser blogger) James had his first and hopefully last hospital visit. He started getting sick on a Sat night and by Thursday he was admitted into the hospital. He had a fever that wouldn't go away and was getting sicker by the day. In my gut I knew I had a sick sick baby on my hands. We were in the hospital for 4 days. He was diagnosed with mono, a sinus infection, severe dehydration, and walking pneumonia. Our poor poor baby.

This was after they were finally able to get his IV in him. Since he was so dehydrated they blew 6 of his veins before they could finally get one in. They had to call the "best" IV stick girl from the pediatric ER to finally get it in. I had to leave the room after the first vein was blown. Way too much for a mom to see as they hold down your screaming sick sick baby. Thank heavens Sam was able to stay with him. James looked like a little pin cushion with bruises all over his arms and feet.
They had to put that big plastic cast like thing over his IV so he wouldn't mess with it. One plus that we thought might could have come from this whole experience was that they had that IV cast thing on this hand that he sucks his thumb. Therefore, the whole 4 days in the hospital he couldn't suck his thumb and we thought that might have broken him of his habit. No such luck. The first day we were back home and put him to bed he was right back to sucking this thumb again. Darn!

Is this not the saddest picture you have ever seen?

One of the days we were there they had a Shrek party for all the kids on the peds floor. James really wasn't into it because he had no idea who Shrek was but it was nice to get out of our room.

The last day in the hospital James was feeling better so here he was playing on one for their trucks.

Also on the last day they took James off his fluids from his IV and wanted him to get his nutrients from eating and drinking. We really couldn't get him to eat or drink but he did eat 4 things of ice cream and that counted as fluids so we were taking what we could get!

This is right before we were discharged. We were soo happy, especially mom. It has to be the worst thing in the world to have your baby sick. We are so grateful to the staff at the hospital that took such great care of him and got him back to his healthy self!

Oh my gosh Brittney, I'm so sorry! There it's truly nothing worse as a mom than watching your little ones be so sick. Looks like he was a trooper through it all and I'm so glad he made it back home and recovered!

How traumatic Britt! I'm glad James made it through.

Oh, that pouty face picture IS so sad! The experience with all the blown veins would have been awful. I can't believe all the things he was diagnosed with at one time! So glad he is ok now.

Oh Brittney, those pictures are so sad! I can't believe he had all those things, that is one SICK baby! I'm glad he is feeling better. And I totally feel ya on the whole baby pin cushion thing. I have to leave the room when they do that. It's terrible to hear your kid cry and NOT be able to do anything about it!

Yikes, Brittney, I have never had a kid that sick! Hopefully you never do again. It will be a good story to tell him when he's older and big on playing doctor I bet!
